If you are responsible for
preparing high school students for college, make plans to attend the How to
Counsel College-Bound Students seminar. The purpose the seminar
is to teach participants how to structure formal or informal, individual or group
counseling sessions with college-bound students.
Facilitated by Dr. Rozalia Williams, Harvard, '93, '00, the seminar will help
participants become more
effective at helping college-bound students become decisive, self-motivated,
self-aware, focused, organized, proactive and independent. It is specially
designed for counselors who do not have an academic background in college
student development.
Who Should Attend:
Professionals who work in counseling,
advising and advocacy roles in schools, colleges, universities, non-profit
agencies, community and faith-based organizations and have earned a master's degree.
Highly recommended for anyone who works with gifted
and talented students, student-athletes and students who will be the first in
their families to attend college.
Ideal for those who serve
college-bound students as mentors, coaches, youth ministers or in other roles.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be taught

Envision themselves as successful adults who can make
meaningful contributions to society
Prioritize their motivating drives and persist through
high school and college graduation
Identify and recognize the value of their innate
gifts, talents, skills and abilities

Prepare for the stressors and distractions they will
encounter in pursuit of higher education.
